Beauty for Your Weekend – April 14, 2017

There’s something wonderful about spring weekends. They’re bright and airy; they’re 60 degree mornings with a chorus of chirping birds; they’re the anticipation of longer days and the surprise of colorful blooms and greener trees.

David wrapped up a night class this week, which means I get him back in the evenings. Tonight we’re making homemade pizzas with friends. It’ll be warm enough to enjoy them outside under the string lights. Tomorrow we celebrate (mourn?) my sister’s move to Austin, Texas later this month. And, of course, Easter is Sunday.

Here’s some beauty for your weekend: a collection of things I gather weekly to remind you of the beauty in you, in Christ, and in the everyday.

Get Still on Good Friday: This weekend represents the climax of all that Jesus did for us on the cross. To be honest, I nearly forgot it was Easter. We’ve been so busy that I haven’t been paying attention. You too? I’s okay. Reflect today and read Ann Voskamp’s blog on feeling unholy during holy week.

Consider Coloring: Yes, I know. Coloring is totally a trend right now. But honestly, it’s relaxing. This new adult coloring book from Emily P. Freeman combines the best of two worlds: the restorative power of coloring and the redemptive power of gospel-driven words. These colored pencils would be perfect for it, too.

Snack on These Cookies: I’m all about being healthy but, man, sometimes you just need a treat. I made these three ingredient peanut butter cookies this week and they are EVERYTHING. They’re even better frozen as an afternoon snack.

Invite Someone Over: But first read why hosting guests when your house isn’t perfect is good for you. We’ve been here two months and our place still isn’t 100% settled. As a perfectionist, this encouraged me to let it go and open up our home.

Here’s what I wish was reality.

Here’s reality. Anyone want to come over and help us break down 1,000 Amazon boxes?

Gawk at a Teeny Tiny Cake: I am in love with all things mini, so I hope you’re as entertained by this artist who makes mini versions of couples’ wedding cakes as I am.

How are you delving into beauty this weekend? Let me know in the comments.
