Happy October! I write to you from a cozy hotel on the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vermont. It’s the first stop on our anniversary road trip, and it’s been a sweet way to end September (and start October). The fall spirit is in full swing here: hot cider and sugared donut stands pepper the back roads, the low temperatures demand scarves, gloves, and close-toed shoes in the evening, and leaves are beginning to change. I’m in heaven. September’s best buys are versatile, budget-friendly, and timeless. I’ll be wearing several of the things mentioned below during our time in Vermont, so be sure to stop by Instagram for a peek at how I style them.
1. Tortoise Glasses
My eyesight has sadly declined over the past year, so I picked up the Warby Parker Laurel glasses (under $100) to help with reading and driving. I think the tortoise frame and round eye give a chic librarian look that goes with any outfit. I love this similar pair under $50, too.
2. Olive Shoulder Bag
Pops of burgundy, olive green, and other seasonal colors can really bring together an outfit. This suede shoulder bag is less than $50 and the quilted front and gold chain give it just enough detail to look slightly pricier.
3. Cream Blouse with Flounce
One of the reasons I love H&M is for the reasonable prices. This blouse is under $50 and the details give is a soft, feminine flare. I’ve worn it with corduroys, tucked into a skirt, and layered under a blazer.
4. Over the Knee Boots (& Lookalikes under $100)
Stuart Weitzman’s over the knee boot varietals have been on my wishlist for some time, but I was always nervous to pull the trigger due to the extreme high cost. I’m a huge fan of Poshmark, and when I found a brand new pair for less than half of the retail price, I went for it. My walnut Midlands are the best boot now own by a mile; they’re incredibly comfortable and indiscriminately flattering. I’ll have them for years and cannot recommend them enough.
On a budget? This lookalike pair in caramel is under $100 and highly rated on Amazon.
5. Burnt Orange Mug
While I’ve never loved pumpkin flavored coffee or creamers, I do prefer to sip my brew in a seasonal-colored mug. It’s a funny little habit of mine that I always choose my coffee mug based on my mood! This $2 burnt orange mug reminds me of bright colored leaves and very much fits in with the season.
