Is there anything more satisfying than an annual spring refresh?
The holiday decor has been stowed for weeks, heavy blankets and clothing are almost unnecessary, and I’m eager to lighten up our space with fresh scents, soft neutrals, airy tones, and simple florals.
Here’s a secret: a spring decor refresh doesn’t need to cost much. In fact, it can be done on the cheap. In this decor post, I’m sharing 5 ideas for a spring home decor refresh that’s affordable, beautiful, and light.
1. Do a Deep Clean
Deep cleaning and spring refreshing are two sides of the same coin. Not only is an annual deep clean satisfying, it gives you a fresh canvas on which to build your spring decor! There are a couple of routes you can take.
If you can, I recommend hiring a cleaning team to deep clean for you. Alternatively, you can DIY. My favorite supplies are listed below. If anything, don’t miss this carpet and upholstery stain removal set. We use it at least a few times a month on our nice furniture!
2. Add Spring Florals
One of the best ways to transition from winter to spring is to introduce fresh flowers or a new plant into your space. Not only do they look pretty, but I personally notice that my mood is brighter when I have fresh flowers in the house.
My favorite spring flowers are hydrangeas, peonies, freesias, and spray roses. I buy them at Trader Joe’s along with my greenery and create my own arrangement (usually two bouquets of flowers and one bunch of greenery). If you don’t have a TJ’s nearby, most grocery stores and farmer’s markets carry those flowers this time of year.
For vases, I rounded up favorites under $50 here and below.
3. Decorate High-Traffic Spaces
The key to making your spring refresh dollars stretch is to focus on areas that are most visible. For us, that’s the kitchen and living room (we have an open floor plan), entryway, and powder room.
For the entryway, I’ll stack affordable used books in our color palette and layer a candle, a small tray, or a tiny glass vase on top. I always have fresh flowers on our entry demilune! In the bathroom, I’ll add a diffuser, seasonal hand soaps, and a floral candle.
If you’re looking to lighten up your coffee table or kitchen island, start with a gold or white tray and layer books, candles, and florals. Favorite spring decor pieces under $100 below.

4. Lighten Up Blankets and Pillows
While I love faux fur and wool in winter, these heavy textures don’t work well for spring. Ideal fabrics to incorporate this time of year include linen and lightweight cashmeres.
I also try to focus on lightening up with throws and pillows in neutral colors. Soft neutrals look so pretty layered at the foot of the bed, on the living room sofa, or on the arm of your favorite reading chair.
5. Upgrade Your Bedding
While our duvet, euros, and decorative pillows remain the same throughout the year, we always change our duvet and sheets come spring.
