At Home Coffee Favorites

At the risk of sounding basic, I’ll admit there’s nothing I look forward to more every morning than my cup of coffee. I make sure to drink 10 ounces of water first thing, but my “morning fuel” is the very next thing I consume. You’ve probably seen me go on and on about my at home coffee machine, but in case you’re new, I love this coffee maker for its simple design, automation, and the fact that it makes excellent, frothy, flavorful coffee.

At home, I’m consuming anywhere from one to two cups per day, and I can honestly say I don’t miss the local coffee shops most of the time. My Nespresso, neutral coffee mugs, and coffee add-ins prompt frequent reader questions, so I thought it’d be fun to share all my at-home coffee favorites in a single post.

We chose the Nespresso Vertuoline rather than the traditional Nespresso with smaller pods because the reviews for flavor, cleanliness, and temperature were better. This has become one of our most used and favorite kitchen items ever, and we use it several times daily between the two of us.

The only downside of the Vertuoline machine is that the pods aren’t available in stores. We order ours from Amazon in bulk, as they offer quick shipping times and many flavor varieties. Our favorites are Caramelizio, Vanizio, Hazelinio, and, a recent addition, Caramel Cookie. The “flavors” are subtle and not overwhelming; they register more in the coffees’ aromas and froth profiles rather than the actual flavor of the coffee, if that makes sense.

When I’m enjoying my cup at home, I love the neutral palette of my Casafina Impressions mugs. If I’m taking my coffee on the go (a walk, an errand, etc.), I’ll use a Yeti mug to keep it piping hot or a collapsible cup if I want a compact option to store in my pocket or purse later.

As far as coffee additions, I keep mine pretty simple. When I’m enjoying coffee from a shop I might get a little more fancy, but at home I’ll either add a splash of organic half and half or froth a bit of oat milk. I always add about a 1/2 teaspoon or truvia for sweetness, and sometimes I sprinkle cinnamon on top.

Our Nespresso machine of choice. It makes piping hot coffee (a common issue with other Nespresso machines), comes with a frother, and has an extra large water tank, and pretty chrome details.

These mugs match our dishware and we absolutely love the neutral palette, classic french country shape, and the fact that they’re dishwasher and microwave safe.

There’s no better product on the market, in my opinion, for keeping hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold than a YETI mug. The 14 oz. size is ideal for a single cup of coffee, especially those with steamed milk added, and I use this when I’m taking my coffee on the go.

I discovered Stojo while browsing Instagram and instantly fell in love with the idea of conveniently storing a coffee cup in a bag or pocket after use and the brand’s pretty, muted color options. I have the 12oz in sage and the 8oz in cashmere.

This isn’t an item we own (yet), but I added this to the list for those of you who have a traditional coffee machine or Keurig and want the option to add some pizzazz with frothed milk. This white and chrome option would look gorgeous on any countertop.

In the summertime, we sometimes deviate from the Nespresso and make cold brew coffee. This under $25 option makes 1 quart, which lasts us about half the week if we’re strictly drinking cold brew.

Our current milk of choice for steaming, the Elmhurst Barista Edition has less calories than traditional barista blends but froths beautifully and tastes delicious. I’ll use about a 1/3 cup with hot coffee or steam a whole cup cold and pour over ice and a shot of espresso.

Not a coffee product, per se, but we absolutely love these clear bins for keeping our coffee drawer organized. It makes the groggiest of mornings simple by allowing us to separate pods by flavor and simply reach down and choose what we’re feeling that day.
