Cozy loungewear outfits took center stage in 2020, and I’m beginning to wonder if 2021 will be any different. Regardless of your predictions about continued lockdowns or work-from-home culture becoming the norm, wrapping up in comfy joggers, hoodies, and cardigans in the midst of cold winter weather feels just right.
In 2020, Google searches for the term ‘loungewear outfit’ skyrocketed, meaning that we’re all wondering how we can create looks that are poised enough for a Zoom call or a quick errand but feel comfortable enough to WFH in.
Raise your hand if you can relate!?
In today’s post, I’m breaking down 3 tips for creating loungewear outfits that look appropriate for casual errands, like picking up a cup of coffee, grabbing groceries, walking the dog, or window shopping.

How to Create a Cute Loungewear Outfit
1. Stay Neutral
For a chic and elevated look, stick to neutrals. Practically anything looks great when you steer toward a monochromatic color palette. For example, this cardigan in ‘Oatmeal’ with an organic cotton tee and white jeans. So easy! Just add sneakers.
2. Follow The One Nice, One Lounge Rule
My biggest style change in 2020 was high-quality lounge separates. While you 100% can style a pant or shorts set for outings, it’s easier to pair joggers/sweats with a really nice knit and look put together. Or vice versa: pair a relaxed pullover/hoodie with nice bottoms, like faux leather leggings or dark ankle jeans.
3. Layer Wisely
When it comes to looking polished in loungewear, layering is key. If you invest in one thing this season, let it be a beautiful winter coat. It can pull an entire outfit together. I also recommend grabbing a purse and reaching for comfortable sneakers, Uggs, or flat ankle boots (no stepping out in slippers, here!). Shearling slides are also a nice option.
My Loungewear Outfit Picks by Category
To help you get started, I hand-picked a few women’s loungewear favorites from shops like Nordstrom, Amazon, and Shopbop. These look less like sleepwear/nightwear/pajama sets and more like something you could actually go out of the house in. Be sure to read the style note below each category!
Lounge Sets
For matching sets, pay attention to the material (gravitate toward “luxe” options and textures, like cashmere and ribbed fabric), the color (avoid patterns, like tie-dye), and the cut (stray from baggy cuts, like wide leg pants and crop tops, in favor of fitted options).
Pullovers and Crewnecks
A long sleeve hooded pullover looks adorable underneath a camel coat. I’ve seen a few of my blogger friends pair that combo with faux leather leggings and sneakers, and it looks so cute! This Amazon hoodie has been on my wishlist for a while.
Leggings and Lounge Pants
Sweatpants and jogger pants are my personal favorites for lounging at home. These best seller Alo joggers are so soft, machine washable, and very easy to pair with short sleeve t-shirts, long sleeve tops, v-neck sweaters, tank tops, and more, and they have a drawstring waist for extra cinch. I also like these high-waist leggings.
Let me know if you have any questions about styling a loungewear outfit for home and elsewhere in the comments or on Instagram. I’m always happy to help! xo!
I love that you shared the loungewear from Nasty Gal I saw someone that did their loungewear for 7 days and all of them were so cute and the price was great as well. I haven’t found loungewear that I love quite yet so I appreciate you sharing.
