Easter is one of the best holidays to dress for because it happens in peak spring just when the craving for florals and flowy dresses kicks in. Our Easters are always joyously packed with church, lunch, and family time, so I typically wear a comfortable Easter dress.
That being said, I know that everyone’s Easter looks different! Today I’m sharing what to wear on Easter Sunday with five Easter outfits for church, brunch, and more. See below for Easter dresses, separates, and a chic look with jeans to try this year.
Easter Outfit Ideas
1. Midi Dress with Heeled Sandals
If the weather’s warm enough, a short sleeve dress with open-toed shoes is my number one recommendation.
There are so many options to choose from (maxi, midi, wrap style, smocked, lace) that fit a church dress code.
It’s common to wear pastel, florals, or white on Easter, but don’t be afraid to go bold. Bright colors are trending this spring!
2. Dress with a Layer and Closed-Toe Shoes
If your Easter will be chilly, just add an extra layer and closed-toe shoes to any of the spring dresses above.
For church, I’d wear a tailored blazer or pashmina wrap. For a casual Easter outing, I’d wear a denim or moto jacket.
3. Mini Dress
If you’re not attending a service, you can pull off a mini dress. Look to the fabrication, length, and sleeve style when deciding whether a mini works for the setting.
For example, a smocked, cotton mini can be paired with sneakers for a casual outdoor meal, while a shapely sheath with puff sleeves and strappy dress shoes would be better for an upscale restaurant.
4. Two Piece Set
I might be in the minority, but I love a two piece skirt set for special occasions. This is another great option if you’re not attending a service.
Pair a solid or botanical print set, like this one, with flat or heeled sandals and a woven bag.
If a cropped bodice intimidates, you can always swap it for a camisole or dressy bodysuit.
5. Blouse and Denim or Pants
If your plans don’t call for a spring dress, try white jeans or white pants with a blouse.
White on white feels especially fresh this time of year, and you can dress it up or down according to your plans.
Go dressy as shown in the collage above with wide-leg pants, heels, a bright camisole. and a coordinating blazer. Go casual with a white blouse, white straight leg jeans, and a block heel.
What to Wear on Easter Sunday
Weather: Depending on where you live, it might be too cold to wear a dress on its own. Short sleeves are okay for 65° and up in my book, but if it’s cooler, go long sleeve or bring a jacket, pashmina, or cardigan.
Church Style: If you’re going to Easter Sunday church, the dress code can vary drastically. You’ll feel comfortable in jeans in some churches, while others keep a tradition of ‘Sunday best’ attire.
In either scenario, lean modest. You can always contact the church office to inquire about dress code if you’re unsure.
Think About the Activities You Have Planned: Will there be church? Brunch? Chasing little ones around on an egg hunt in grass? Have these in mind when selecting your Easter outfit (and especially your shoes).
When In Doubt, Florals and Pastel Colors: Easter is the perfect time to embrace spring dresses in seasonal colors like pastels, lilac, and citrus. You can’t go wrong with a floral or block print dress for this holiday!
