Fall is beyond the shadow of a doubt my favorite time to shop for clothes. The textures, palette, and coziness resonate with me more than any other season, and with cooler days starting to feel less transient, I’m about to burst with anticipation!
I started changing over my wardrobe in August, taking stock of what I have and making note of gaps. I’m also warming up to a few trends this year (flats, vests, and western boots) and finding myself drawn to patterns and colors that teeter between bold and chic.
The official first day of autumn is Saturday (counting down!), so I thought I’d tide you over with a peek at my fall wishlist. Of course, not all of these pieces will make it into my wardrobe. This is just what I’m browsing and loving for the season!
What I’m Buying for Fall 2023
Since I already have a few tried and true neutral coats that go well with just about anything, this year, I have my eye on layers that add a pop alongside some jackets. This yellow coat is by S’ Max Mara, who’s known for the quality and fit of their wool (as they should be, given the prices!). See below for a few more layers on my radar…

Fall Bags
Nice bags are something I try to think about for at least a year. A purchase always feels more justified if the item’s still on my mind the next season. This Bottega crossbody is a great example—small, hands free, and just right for fall/winter. I know I’ll get great cost per wear since it dresses up and down and will work for trips. See more of what I’m eyeing below and in my fall bag shop…
Shop NowA denim-centric wardrobe is one of the best parts of fall style! This year, I’m loving laid-back, wide cuts in dark washes as well as relaxed trousers, like this crowd favorite Abercrombie pair under $100. The Veronica Beard pair shown (more sizes here) is one I have and love in light wash, so I was so thrilled to see it in a dark wash. More denim and pants I’m loving this fall below…

Fall Shoes
My boot collection is fairly solid, with pairs like this and this remaining some of the most enduring pieces in my closet. So, this year, I’m excited to focus on non-boot gaps! I’m all about ballet flats (a huge trend this fall), suede platforms, dressy booties, and chic sneakers like the chocolate Loewe pair shown. Be sure to check my fall shoe shop to see what pairs I discover each week!
Shop NowI’m admittedly not a closet minimalist, and that’s glaringly obvious when it comes to my dresses! There’s a section of my husband and my shared closet that has become…much less shared…over the last few years thanks to my frocks. This season, I’m craving modern lines and bold colors, which is a departure from the sweet styles I typically love (though this Doen dress and this Doen dress are exceptions). Here are fall dresses I’m eyeing for day, night, and events…
Shop NowI’ve been favoriting so many blouses, knits, skirts, and separates that, as I like to say, hold their own. In other words, they can be paired back to a simpler, go-to basic and look great. My wishlist is full of prints and bold colors, waist-defining shapes, and beautiful sweaters like this Toteme dupe at H&M.
Shop NowJewelry, belts, scarves, and other finishing details are sometimes what takes an outfit from good to great. I didn’t really think about jewelry until my mid 20s and still have a relatively small collection. So lately, everyday jewelry, statement pieces for special events, and staple accessories that will help bring my fall outfits together are on the brain. Here are a few pieces I’m browsing…
