Whether your Thanksgiving plans involve a traditional celebration with family or a small friendsgiving feast, a cute Thanksgiving dinner outfit can help you feel all the more comfy and festive in any setting.
By the time Thanksgiving arrives, I’m always ready to take a breather, spend time with loved ones, and reflect on what I’m grateful for. And on a day when I plan to indulge in pumpkin pie and cozy up by the fire, a comfortable outfit is key.
Up ahead, six cute Thanksgiving outfit ideas to make the most of the holiday in.
6 Thanksgiving Dinner Outfit Ideas
1. Sweater Dress
I’ve really fallen in love with sweater dresses this season (as seen here). I like to style mine with knee-high boots, but loafers would look pretty, too. This affordable Amazon dress has a relaxed fit that’s perfect for Thanksgiving dinner. If it’s warm where you are, try a maxi dress instead and layer a lightweight blazer for the post-dinner stroll. This Free People option is nice and roomy, and I love this Sea dress.
2. White Pants + Cable Knit Sweater
I’m always a fan of this simple combination because it’s casual and polished. Go monochrome with white pants and a cozy sweater, and add a red lip or animal print kitten heels for a pop (I like this leopard print pair). A cream teddy coat and sneakers will complete the look.
3. Corduroy Pants + V-Neck Sweater
There’s a small window of time when corduroy is ‘in,’ so I like to capitalize on it as much as possible! Honestly, though, the sweater and pants combo works for any style of bottoms (skinny jeans, etc.) or knit (turtleneck, oversized, button down cardigan). To get your wheels turning, see how I styled a sweater poncho with high-rise jeans here, or how I styled suede pants with a boucle sweater here. I also love the idea of a feminine statement blouse (like this one with ruffles) with suede pants.
I find that most people either love or hate jumpsuits, and I’m in the love category. As a big fan of one-and-done outfits, a jumpsuit is as easy as it comes. If you want to get just a bit dressy for the dinner table, this is my pick. Keep it from being too luxe with a playful headband and comfortable loafers, and add a leather jacket as the night goes on. I love this dressier wide leg jumpsuit, and this option is currently in my cart.
5. Midi Skirt and Boots
For a classic fall fashion pairing that’s effortless and chic, wear a midi skirt with a pretty blouse, bodysuit, or sweater and ankle boots or knee-high boots. I love this look because you’ll get some give and movement, especially if you choose a skirt with a stretchy waistline. For a few examples of how I’ve been styling midi skirts recently, see a pleated skirt and cut out sweater combination here and my favorite J. Crew midi with a tailored turtleneck here.
6. Leggings with a Chunky, Oversized Sweater
The most relaxed combo of them all, I’m not sure anything gets more comfortable than faux leather leggings and a long sleeve knit sweater. It’s a few steps above sweatpants but arguably just as comfortable. You could swap the sweater for a cardigan (I like this one from Amazon) and t-shirt layering pair, too.

No matter what the holiday looks like for you next week, I hope you’re able to soak in what’s special about the season—family, stillness, and gratitude—as we head toward the finish line of this completely unexpected year.
