Even though I’ve expanded the amount of color in my wardrobe recently, neutrals like black, white, and beige remain the staples I reach for when I want to feel immediately “me” in an outfit. I wouldn’t say that my style is sexy by any means, but I prefer to look sophisticated rather than cute. And for that end goal, I’m always led back to black and white outfits, especially in summer.
What I love about black and white is that they’re without season. Whether a white jean jacket over a spring black dress or a knit white dress with black boots, this color combination works year round. For this black and white summer outfit I wore recently, I paired a black off-the-shoulder top with my favorite wide-leg white jeans and finished the look with a textured tote bag and sandals.
As we inch closer to fall, the black & white palette feels even more appealing. These neutrals can play together to build multiple transitional looks, like washed black jeans with a long sleeve white blouse, an easy white maxi dress with a black trimmed bag, a white sweater over your shoulders with a sleeveless black midi dress, or a luxe black blazer pared back to a monochrome base of a white t-shirt and white jeans.
