Affordable Fall Decor Tips

fall decor tips

This is my favorite time of year as the temperature drops & the leaves begin to change. I’m just beginning to decorate my home for fall & it feels so good! Today I’m sharing my affordable fall decor tips to give you some ideas as you decorate your home for fall.

Fall Decor Tips

Update Your Wreath

My spring and summer wreath has a very fresh and airy look with mostly green and white hues. For fall, I like to tie in seasonal colors like orange, sand, yellow, or burgundy. I’ve had this wreath for a few years and still love it, but I’m obsessed with this neutral flax and wheat wreath and just might have to add it to my cart for next year.

Stack Pumpkins and Gourds

Whether you head to the pumpkin patch and make a day of selecting mums and pumpkins with the family or simply grab a few from your local Trader Joe’s (like me), pumpkins and gourds are such an understated, classic way to dress up your porch for autumn. This year I chose neutral colors for my pumpkins and am on the prowl for some orange or white mums, which will match my fall wreath, to go with them. I recommend choosing pumpkins of different sizes and either stacking them or leaning them on one another in threes.

Bring Nature Indoors

I always have a couple of bowls in the house in visible areas, like on the coffee table, on the demi-lune table in the entryway, and in the guest bathroom. I change out the contents seasonally and, for fall decorating, I fill them with acorns, dried foliage, pinecones, and other things from our yard. This could be a fun “backyard scavenger hunt” if you have kids! Some grocery stores also sell scented cinnamon stick brooms (Trader Joe’s) and dried corn ears (I got mine from Sprout’s), which look pretty in a decorative fall bowl as well.

Add a Fall-Scented Candle

Candles set the mood! I love to light one as I’m waking up and getting ready for the day and when I’m making dinner at night. My all-time favorite fall candle is the Mulled Cider candle by Walmart. Walmart stopped carrying it, but you can find it on Amazon. I also love this Pumpkin Chai candle (the smallest version is in my hall bathroom – it smells crisp like fall yet isn’t overwhelming).

Dress Up the Mantle

Last year, I bought this gold fall garland and it looks beautiful on it’s own on the mantle. Other autumnal ways to dress up the mantle are to layer candles, greenery (like eucalyptus), and smaller pie pumpkins or mini pumpkins. I like to keep things simple and neutral so that the color palette is cohesive with my fall front porch display.

Fill Vases with Seasonal Elements

While I love my hydrangeas in the summer, fall has so many other botanicals to offer that create the coziest mood. I love the idea of taking glass vases or warm ceramic vases and filling them with elements you can easily forage, purchase, of find faux versions of like wheat, amaranth, chrysanthemum, and fountain grass.
