We first visited Cabo when living in California years ago, and as evidenced by how many times we’ve returned to the area since moving to the east coast, it quickly became our favorite spot for a getaway. We absolutely love the Baja Peninsula, and after a handful of visits, have gotten used to packing for it. It’s usually a mix of versatile vacation pieces that can work together, often transitioning easily from day to night as the evenings tend to be mild.
There’s something special about the Los Cabos area of Mexico from the reliable sunshine to the dry desert air, organic farms, whale watching, art-centric nearby towns, blond beaches, and, of course, delicious Mexican food. Whether you’re staying in quiet San José del Cabo (our preference) or rowdy Cabo San Lucas just a few miles west, you’re in for a treat! See below for what to pack for Cabo, Mexico.
Cabo Packing List
Here’s a shortlist of what clothing to pack for Cabo. This is typically what I take when we go for a 5-7 night vacation. Versatility is key and, depending on the time of year, you may want to include a shawl. We’ve been in March, April, and May and it’s never too chilly in the evenings, but a light layer is great for throwing over the shoulders at night.
- 3 swimsuits (1 one piece bathing suit, 2 bikinis)
- 2 coverups or sarongs
- 1 matching set
- Flip flops or pool sandals
- Sun hat
- Casual flat sandals
- 2-3 evening dresses
- Dressy evening sandals
- Light jacket or wrap
- 2 shorts (1 casual, 1 dressy)
- 1-2 casual tank tops, blouses or or button downs
- Beach bag for sunscreen, beach towels, etc.
- Evening clutch
Be sure to check the dress code for the restaurants you book. Cabo is very laid back, so most don’t have them, but a few don’t allow jeans, sandals, etc, so it never hurts to check.
