Even though we don’t have a wedding on the books this fall, so many of you have requested fall wedding guest dresses for a variety of invitations. This time of year is my favorite to browse dressier styles, and the selection right now is so good given that certain elements, like romantic details, are trending.
One goal I have when shopping for a fall wedding guest dress is to land on a style I can wear again throughout the season (or during the holidays). This isn’t always possible (i.e. black tie attire), but when it is, it’s nice to know you can get more life out of a piece, especially if it’s on the pricier side.
The dress I styled for this post is a budget-friendly and truly perfection for an early fall wedding with lingering heat. Later in the season when it’s properly chilly, I’d add a pashmina like this or this.
As far as accessories, a fall wedding might be the only cold-weather occasion where I let my toes come back out with a heeled sandal like this or an on-trend style like this. For my bag, I lean toward leather and suede textures like this clutch, this clutch, and this clutch. If you want sparkle, this is a beautiful pearly option.
See below for my picks for fall 2022 wedding guest dresses broken down by price. Each price category has cocktail/casual options in the top row and formal/gown options in the bottom row.
Fall Wedding Guest Dresses Under $250
I have to call out this ASTR dress under $100 because it was such a hit last year (seen on me here). If you’re looking for an affordable long sleeve, this is my top pick under $100 (in seven colors). This is my top pick when thinking about a piece that can be worn after the event.
TOP ROW: Red One Shoulder Mini Dress / Terracotta Ruched One Shoulder Dress / Blue Asymmetrical Dress / Dolman Sleeve Satin Midi Dress / Black Long Sleeve Square Neck Dress / Lace A-Line Dress
BOTTOM ROW: Long Sleeve Floral Dress / Burgundy V-Neck Gown / Deep V-Neck Cutout Gown / Gold Slip Dress / Ruffle Teal Gown / Ruffle Black Gown
Fall Wedding Guest Dresses Over $250
#6 is one of my favorite dresses I’ve ever purchased (I have it in teal as seen here). #2 and #3 are two of Zimmermann’s best-selling styles ever, iterated as a midi and maxi. Both are available in more colors. I didn’t include too many minis since I tend to like to keep my arms and legs covered for chilly fall weddings, but this mini dress is gorgeous for fall.
TOP ROW: Rose Midi Dress / Long Sleeve Burgundy Dress / Long Sleeve Terracotta Mini / Teal Tiered Midi / Pleated Black Midi / Black Ruffle Hem Midi
BOTTOM ROW: Red Sleeveless Gown / Red One Shoulder Gown / Gold Ruffled Midi / Gold Maxi with Side Slit / Navy V-Neck Gown / Black Halter Gown
Rent the Runway Picks
I thought it would be fun to include a section of picks from Rent the Runway for those of you looking to explore a style without spending a crazy amount.
TOP ROW: Ruffled Red Maxi / Burgundy Mini Dress / Long Sleeve Floral Dress
BOTTOM ROW: Sleeveless Gown / Green Midi / Black and Brown Midi
Loving the long floral maxi with the bell sleeves at the end. So so good!
