Bringing out textural fabrics is one of my favorite ways to make an outfit pop in fall and winter. From suede to leather, luxe satin, faux fur, and chunky knits, the options are endless!
I love to create interest by pairing contrasting fabrics: a chunky knit over a silky satin skirt, buttery leather pants with faux fur, or a monochromatic look in a mix of textures. Not one combination reigns supreme, and that’s the beauty.
To help you elevate your outfits with that pop of texture this fall and winter, I’m sharing pieces in my top five seasonal textures for every taste and budget below. From suede accessories to faux leather skirts, satin pants, and cable sweaters, these are fabrics to start wearing ASAP.

SUEDE
A pair of authentic suede pants has been on my mind lately (like these) as has a real suede tote or hobo, but an imitation suede like this belt, this jacket, and these boots, give the same inviting look and oh-so-soft feel.
LEATHER
Along the same lines, a pair of real leather trousers (these are similar and under $100) has been high on my wishlist! And you can’t go wrong with a classic leather jacket. More budget-friendly ways to incorporate it in fall and winter are with belts (I have this belt in two colors), bags (designer option here), and of course leather boots (my current favorites here and here).
SILK & SATIN
Especially for the holidays, date night, and dressier occasions, silk and satin are not to be missed! Make it a mainstay in your wardrobe like I do with satin skirts (also have and love this one), satin blend pants, and silky tops, or add a little pop with this texture via a multi-use scarf, barrette, or even a clutch.
VELVET
A fall and winter texture that’s a close cousin of suede and also works beautifully for dressier occasions is velvet, as seen in this bag, this blazer, this headband, and this top.
KNITS
Whenever I think of winter knits, I think of Cameron Diaz’s chunky cable sweater in The Holiday. Do you know the one!? I love the laidback, decidedly cozy textural knitwear brings to cold weather outfits. A few on my radar include this ever popular Jenni Kayne cardigan and this Sezane sweater, and this $25 sweater are favorite I have in several colors.
FAUX FUR & SHERPA
I love a faux fur look that doesn’t give rich Aspen wife vibes, so for me, finding a slim-fitting vest, jacket, or accessory is ideal. This longline faux fur vest under $100 has been a favorite for fall (seen here). And I’m saving up my pennies for this one. For the sake of ease, let’s group shearling right in—I’d wear this clutch and these mules with silky separates for the ultimate textural winter look!
