The High/Low: Burgundy for Now and Later
It’s almost the middle of August (can you believe it?!), and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t daydreaming about fall. Autumn colors and imagery are emerging everywhere, from the ads in my favorite shows to the clothing catalogues in our mailbox. I haven’t put away my summer clothes just yet, but I’m definitely shifting to a late summer palette that mixes fall colors (olive! rust! chestnut!) with soft neutrals.
We covered marigold and black in last week’s High/Low, and this week I’m highlighting another pairing: burgundy and cream. What I love burgundy (and its cousins like wine, plum, and mahogany) is that it gives a strong nod to fall without feeling as bold or risky as a true red.
It’s the perfect shade to lighten up with cream denim now and use as a base for a head-to-toe autumnal look later. The burgundy mini skirt above (I have last year’s version and absolutely loved it as a transitional piece) with a brown bag, flats, and a creamy knit, for example. The dress version would make a great September or October wedding guest look with these affordable heels.
As we count down the days to feeling that brisk change in the air, I hope this post inspires you to incorporate some burgundy into your wardrobe for now and later!
