One of the colors I’m crushing on this fall is yellow, which comes as a surprise given that I have so little of it in my wardrobe. Rather than pastel or stark versions, I’ve been seeing warm yellows, like gold, marigold, and ochre. Everything from coats, sweaters, dresses, and skirts has made its way onto my fall wishlist and into my fall shops!

Yellow gets overlooked all too often due to people’s fear of it washing them out, but in the right shade, it can compliment a variety of skin tones. For my fair skin, I like warm, golden yellows, but even vibrant shades like saffron create striking contrast with the right makeup (bronzer is key).

How to Wear Yellow in Fall

It’s trendy right now to wear bold colors with other shades of the same hue. That monochromatic moment can work really well with yellow by mixing separates in contrasting fabrics, like a satin skirt and a cozy sweater.

If that feels a bit much to you, try pairing a yellow separate, like a blouse, with seasonal neutrals like navy, brown, black, or denim. My favorite is yellow with brown. I paired this Cult Gaia wrap dress in a gorgeous shade of marigold with a suede bag and platform sandals in the same color to keep the look polished.

From sweaters to dresses to wedding guest styles, it’s so easy to find whatever you’re looking for in these shades this fall. If you’re not ready for a full-on yellow outfit, try incorporating a splash with a handbag, shoes, or jewelry. You could even incorporate yellow in a print!
