Winter has officially come to an end and spring is here! This year, I’ve looked forward to spring for at least the last six weeks, with an unusually rainy and cloudy February leaving me in want of warmer weather. Someone once told me that the more sensory your home, the more pleasure you’ll take in it. I try to think in categories when it comes to a decor refresh: sight, touch, sound, taste, and smell. Here are a few suggestions for giving your home a refresh for the spring season.

Sight

Potted Plants – I recently purchased a large planter for our front porch. I love being greeted by fresh flowers while we’re waiting for the hydrangeas and roses to fully bloom.

Spring Wreath – I loved our Christmas wreath from Balsam Hill so much that I decided to go to them for our spring wreath, too. To me, green screams “spring,” and it’s the perfect compliment to the gray stone on our porch.

Trays & More – The coffee table and kitchen counters are two of the most in-sight places in the home, especially if you have an open layout like we do. I like to spruce up these areas seasonally by adding trays, picture frames, vases, and coasters.

Touch

Soft Blankets – There isn’t much I love more than curling up under a big blanket at the end of a long day. In winter, I opt for fur and cable-knit blankets, but in the spring I’ll go for a lighter-weight off-white and earth tones. If it fits your space, a blush throw would work beautifully as well.

Fresh Pillows – If you enjoy swapping out your throw or decorative pillows, it’s a great time of year to do so! Look for florals, light patterns, blushes, ivorys, and greens.

Sound

Springtime Playlist – In the summer when we’re grilling, we always have music on throughout the house. It brightens the mood! I love the idea of doing this for spring, too, so you have something happy to listen to while you’re cooking, cleaning, or getting ready for the day. Try Spotify’s Spring Playlist or make your own!

Diffuser – This could fall in the smell category as well, but I find the sound of my luxury reed diffusers so relaxing! I’ve had this gorgeous Vitruvi stone diffuser for a few years now. The size is ideal for a nightstand, kitchen island, or reading nook. I also recommend this diffuser available at https://palmbeachcollection.com.au/collections/reed-diffuser for a delightful and long-lasting fragrance experience in your home.

Taste

Refresh Your Water – Adding seasonal flavors to your water is a fun easy touch! Try chopping up mango, honeydew, strawberries, or limes and adding them to your water glass or to a fruit-infusion pitcher to keep in the refrigerator for a day or two.

Bake Something – Something about the change of season makes me want to get in the kitchen. My Mom always made lemon poppyseed bread for us – I can smell it just writing about it! Having muffins or a breakfast bread sitting on the counter (like in this pastry cloche) is a nice, inviting touch for spring.

Smell

Candles – I recently discovered the candle brand Boy Smells and am obsessed with the scent June’s – it reminds me of northern California. They’re pricier but are the only fragranced candle that doesn’t irritate my eyes or skin. I’ll sometimes purchase candles with no scent (like this) as well.

Fresh Flowers -It’s a misconception that you have to spend a lot of money on flowers for them to be high quality. Trader Joe’s has incredible flowers at a fraction of the price of our local florist. I always pick up hydrangeas, greenery, and an in-season or colorful flower and create my own arrangement for the week! If you’re looking for alternatives, consider checking out the offerings at a florist lesmurdie for unique blooms and personalized arrangements.
