What I’ve Bought Our Preemie Baby Boy So Far

Our sweet baby is finally here! I knew from halfway through pregnancy that our baby was likely to arrive early, so I started scouting preemie clothes. I managed to find/was gifted a few gender neutral pieces that have worked out perfectly for his birth weight (6lb 7 oz, but dropped into the 5lb range) and, of course, have been perusing all the boy items since he arrived.

Below is a roundup of what we’ve bought so far with notes on sizing. “Preemie” in some brands runs large! I hope this is helpful for anyone who has a little one on the smaller side or is in search of sweet baby clothes for late winter/early spring!

La Coqueta Set

I wanted something special and gender neutral to take baby home from the hospital in (we were team green), and this sage knit set was the winner. It’s such a special piece and the wool is extremely soft. This brand doesn’t sell preemie, but the M0 fit him well for pictures with the cuffs rolled. See it on Nathaniel here.

Alpaca Baby Bundle

This was another take home outfit contender, but it ended up being mild the day we were discharged! The NB is oversized on him but is a nice layering piece for cold days that he’ll grow into.

Kyte Zipper Footies and Bodysuits

These are expensive but so good. When we’re at home, he’s in one of these 99% of the time—they’re soft to the touch so it really feels like you’re treating your baby. The smooth fabric makes changing easy when they’re wiggly. Preemie has been true to size. I shop these on Amazon for fast delivery as KYTE shipping can be slow.

Magnetic Me Footies

I bought one newborn Magnetic Me footie after hearing people rave about them, and although it’s a little large, it’s been great! I ordered a couple more in the preemie size via the Magnetic Me website (more selection there than on Amazon).

Carter’s Preemie Clothes

Carter’s has a huge preemie selection, and almost everything is under $30. My Mom and sister gifted us gowns and footies for Christmas that fit great. Target and Amazon also carry Carter’s, which is lifesaving for getting what you need quick! I picked up these hats and socks as all newborn accessories were slipping off. I can’t wait to dress him in these overalls with this brown bodysuit!

H&M Clothes

H&M newborn is a treasure trove of cuteness! I find myself checking their new arrivals daily. Their preemie styles run large (and vary piece to piece), but they do the job and it’s nice knowing he’ll grow into them. This preemie set actually fits true to size and was one of our go tos in the hospital. I also bought Nathaniel this blue knit set and hat, these corduroy overalls and hat, this fleece coat, and this knit jumpsuit for winter, and I snagged this corduroy shirt, this denim jacket, and denim overalls for spring. We gave him his first bath and used this towel last night.

Zara Clothes

Zara baby has been another go to. They can be expensive and the sizes are hit or miss. Most people say Zara runs big, but I’ve found their hats and socks to be true to size. I bought Nathaniel this grey cashmere set with the matching socks and hat, this marigold cardigan and matching hat, and this sock set.

Fleece Snow Suit

My SIL got us this fleece suit and it has been one of our favorite items so far! Even on mild days we bundle him up he’s so little and needs help with temperature regulation. It’s big right now (newborn size), but it keeps him cozy on our walks just the same! I also purchased this H&M fleece coat and pant set if you’re looking for something similar in preemie size.

Zutano Booties

If you have a winter baby, you need these! Another gift from my SIL and they’re warm, soft, and stay on their feet. No more missing socks.

Brush and Comb Set

This is obviously not a clothing item, but our babe has so much hair and with it being cold, he’s in and out of hats all day, so I like to use this brush after a change. The bristles are so soft—it’s like a little spa treatment!
