Fall “Going Out” Tops I Can’t Wait to Wear

Fall Going Out Tops

David and I make a point to spend at least one night out every weekend, and it’s always a moment I look forward to. It gives me a chance to wear pieces I wouldn’t otherwise, and I honestly feel most like myself on these nights since my personal style leans a little more elevated.

When I’m shopping for an evening top, I look for something special I can build an outfit around. This Favorite Daughter houndstooth bustier is just that! I wore it for a rooftop dinner with denim and a light layer on our recent trip to San Diego. I also love it in black.

If you’re on the hunt for a fall going out top that will feel right at home in the reliable formula of jeans, a cute top, heels, and a clutch, I found some great options at high and low price points for the season.

Satin or Silk Top

Silk and Satin naturally have luxurious feel, making them easy to dress up. I highly recommend this silky button down by Vince if you’re looking for something versatile that goes from work to weekend to evening. It’s a splurge, but the reviews speak for themselves! I like to dress mine up with a skirt and strappy heels. Options that show more skin, like a one shoulder top (I have in chocolate), a draped halter, a satin cami, or a bandeau are other silky options for a sophisticated look.

Something Sheer

I promise you, sheer blouses do not have to look provocative. Styling makes all the difference. Paired with a bralette or cami, you can create a look that’s sultry but modest. If you’re new to sheer, tops with tastefully placed lace are a safe place to start and don’t require special undergarments. Dense lace patterns provide a little more coverage, but even ultra sheer blouses feel classy when layered over a bodysuit.

Statement Tops

Statement tops are one of my wardrobe weaknesses. I probably don’t need another one ever but always find them tempting! The ease of throwing on a great top with simple bottoms, sleep shoes, and a timeless clutch is so appealing. It makes getting ready easy. Details to try for fall are fringe, draped sashes, shimmer, and tassels.

Bodysuits

Wearing a bodysuit feels like one of those sacrifices we make in the name of fashion, but they’re hard to beat for a streamlined look. The one brand I truly love is Wolford (the Colorado is my most worn). The fabric feels amazing and the quality is great. On the affordable side, Abercrombie makes bodysuits with all sorts of necklines and sleeve lengths. Regardless of which brand you go with, these are a great “going out” options for when you’re feeling a neutral look or want a solid to pair with a print. They provide a smooth finish under blazers, jackets, and coats.
