13 Fall Skirt Outfits

If I were to take inventory of my fall outfits over the years, there’s one underrated essential that stands out in terms of wearability: skirts. By the time the first brisk day arrives. I’ve usually begun styling them in transitional looks, and once it’s properly cold, minis, midis, and maxis in autumnal colors and vibrant prints are mainstays in my weekly outfits.

Whether you’re looking for inspiration to style a leather mini skirt for date night, a midi skirt with a cozy sweater for Friendsgiving, or a silky satin skirt with boots, today I’m sharing thirteen fall skirt outfits that will bring a feminine touch to your looks this season.

Printed Mini Skirt with Knee High Boots

This is one of my favorite fall skirt looks I’ve styled because the printed skirt adds such a pop. It’s sultry without being too over the top for a girls’ night out or drinks, and it’s covered enough to be practical on a brisk night. This look also shows off how flattering the rule of thirds is. It’s so visually appealing to cut your body in thirds rather than in half! The top of the knee boots, the waist of the mini skirt, and the top of the turtleneck are my thirds lines in this example.

Leather and fall go hand in hand, and while this leather mini (it’s old, but I found similar here and here) could’ve leaned edgy, the gold halter top adds a contemporary, feminine feel. I styled the skirt with leather knee-high boots similar to these, which helped balance the amount of skin shown overall. I threw a black blazer over my shoulders to keep warm. This combo is a favorite for a night out on the town!

Satin Mini Skirt with a Cardigan

This is a casual take on a fall mini skirt outfit, with a satin mini paired back to my favorite slub white t-shirt. I sandwiched the look with my favorite Loeffler Randall boots (true to size) and Sezane’s popular Betty cardigan in cognac. I love a cropped outer layer when I want to emphasize my waist.

Similar to the leather mini look above but with a leather midi! My skirt is by A.L.C. (it’s almost sold out, but here’s a similar A.L.C. skirt; I linked more options in the widget below). I love A.L.C.’s twist on classics, and a leather skirt like this can be styled for conservative settings like the office and worn straight to drinks. One of my tips when wearing leather is to choose separates in contrasting fabrics, like my silky black halter. Other options would be a knit sweater, a jersey bodysuit, or a silk chiffon blouse.

Printed and Pleated Fall Midi Skirt Outfit

There’s always chatter about whether pleated skirts are “in” or “out,” but to me, it’s all about how they’re styled. This is a Banana Republic skirt (old, but here’s a similar skirt on Amazon and an option without pleats) with a sleeveless shell similar to this sweater. Since my lower half is so covered, I love the balance of showing skin at my arms. My black bag, boots, and belt (this is a unique one I love by Isabel Marant—you can read my review here) provide harmony against the print.

Fun fact: This is probably the most popular fall skirt outfit I’ve ever shared! The cozy sweater and skirt combo is so easy to pull together and works for a variety of settings. This is another Banana Republic skirt with a popular AllSaints sweater. I added slim shaft ankle booties (my recommendation for skirts and dresses as they’re more flattering than a wide opening). You could try this at the office or swap sneakers to make it casual for the weekend. For more pleated skirt inspo, see my pleated midi skirt post.

Fall Satin Skirt Outfit with a Blazer

This chocolate brown satin skirt by Vince (one of my favorite brands for silky skirts) paired perfectly with the colorway of this Veronica Beard floral blouse. Since the blouse had a soft peplum hem, I decided not to tuck it and instead leaned into the rule of thirds to highlight my waist with one of my favorite thin leather belts from J.Crew.

Wool Skirt and Sweater Outfit

For a truly cozy fall skirt outfit, try pairing a wool skirt with a sweater. This is the same AllSaints sweater shown in the pleated skirt look above and runs true to size. The pop of green from my Mansur Gavriel bag and black in my knee-high boots (very old, but these is a similar boots by Sam Edelman) bring the look together.

Once late August and September hit, my mind is on fall but the weather usually says otherwise, and this is a great summer to fall transitional skirt outfit idea. The fall tones of the APiece Apart skirt look great with the black FRAME blouse, and the suede heeled sandal also help the outfit say “autumn” more than “summer.” This would work well for the office or a networking event.

Camel Skirt Outfit

A leather camel skirt is a fall staple, and this one by Ted Baker has been a favorite of mine for a few years. It’s old, but I found similar and added them to the widget below. I paired it with my favorite Vince button down blouse (they are pricey, but I find them to the best luxe blouses on the market given the fabric, fit, and overall quality). I finished off the look with an Amazon bag and Steve Madden tall boots (very old, similar here). If you haven’t tried black and camel together, you really can’t go wrong!

Long Satin Skirt with a Blouse

One of my favorite things to do when styling is to use a beautiful print as a jumping off point for the rest of the look. I did the same thing earlier this season showing you how to style a long denim skirt, and it’s exactly what I did with this Sezane high-neck blouse, first adding a golden Lee Mathews satin skirt and finishing things off with leather knee-high boots (old, similar here), a Sezane belt (old, but this is similar), and a favorite fall tote by KHAITE. I didn’t really need the belt in this case to highlight the waist, but the woven texture and gold hardware add an interesting pop.

Satin Midi Skirt with a Cardigan

This was my Thanksgiving outfit one year and it was what I like to call cozy chic. When I’m choosing satin maxis and midis, I look for skirts with a side slit as this helps with movement (and comfort) and showing a little bit of skin on the legs can keep a look from feeling too covered/frumpy. This colorful cardigan is by BA&SH, which I paired with chocolate suede knee-high boots and my KHAITE tote.

Satin Maxi Skirt with a Sweater and a Blazer

This is another cozy fall skirt outfit that would work well for a dressy Thanksgiving dinner or holiday event or the office. I paired an ATM silk maxi skirt with a velvet blazer, black accessories, and a black turtleneck. Truth be told, this would have been much easier with a black turtleneck bodysuit (my favorite is the Wolford bodysuit, and I’ve also heard great thing about the Commando bodysuit). Since most of these pieces are old, I linked similar for you to shop in the widget.
