When we purchased our the Frame TV by Samsung last year, I knew I was going to write a review because, like so many of you, I had questions about it that I just couldn’t find honest answers to online. We’ve had our 65-inch model in the living room for over six months now, and we watch Netflix on it just about every night. I feel like I’ve had just enough time to give you a solid list of pros and cons to consider and my thoughts on functionality, value, and aesthetic. Keep reading for my honest review of the Samsung Frame TV.

Does Frame TV Art Mode Really Look Like Art?

This varies depending on the time of day, how much sun or ambient light is hitting the TV, and your viewing angle. For example, at night or on a particularly dark day, you can tell that it’s a TV when it’s set to art mode because it gives off light. In harsh sunlight or on a rainy day with all indoor lights turned on, I also find that the TV looks like, well, a TV.

However, the magic of the TV looking like a piece from an art store happens in just about every other scenario. In my opinion, if you’re standing five feet or further away, it looks like art 99% of the time. For perspective, people who visit our home hardly notice that it’s a TV. It takes them three or four glances before saying, “Wait…that’s a TV?!”.

Frame TV Bezels and Borders

If there’s anything that gives the Frame TV away, it’s the obvious black rectangle surrounding the edges of the digital artwork. We added the beige bezel from Samsung, which I admittedly cringed pretty hard at paying for because, wow, it’s overpriced. That being said, having a neutral frame or a frame in a color that coordinates with your decor definitely helps it blend in.

This is the official Samsung bezel, but I’ve seen affordable Frame TV bezels on Etsy, and this blogger shared how to DIY a Frame TV bezel. If you have a huge budget and want a luxury frame that will make your TV really look like a piece of art, these Deco Frames are beautiful.

The Wall Mount and Cable Box Situation

One of the best design features of this TV is the no-gap wall mount, which helps it sit flush against the wall like a picture frame. The wall mounting bracket comes with the TV, and it doesn’t tilt or move at all.

To help give the realistic appearance of art, the TV comes with its own Samsung OneConnect box and there are no actual cable inputs on the TV. It does have one clear power cord, which we’re able to run into a hole that was drilled behind our TV and into the cabinet where the box is. If you don’t have a hole, I wouldn’t worry about it as the clear cord should blend into the wall.

My Favorite Things About the Samsung Frame TV

• Picture quality: It looks good to me, and even my husband says it’s great, which is saying something.
• Sound quality: Also great; connects to our Control4 for surround sound.
• Customizable bezels: We bought the neutral to fit our decor; it’s magnetic and looks like wood from a distance.
• Highly customizable: The ability to select new art at any time is so fun for changing seasons, holidays, and events/parties. Scroll to the bottom of the post for some of my favorite art.
• Remote control: Easy to use. Switch between TV and art mode at the touch of a button.
• Built-in light sensor: LCD backlight dims automatically when in art mode to match the lighting of the room.

Downsides of the Samsung the Frame TV

• Pricing: The Frame ranges from $600-$3,000 depending on size. You can find discounts on 2018, 2019, and 2020 versions and Amazon’s New & Used retailers.
• Black frame: If you have modern decor, this might not be an issue. If you like neutrals, it’s almost necessary to add a bezel so that it blends with the room. The beige works well against our living room and shelf decor.

Samsung Frame Smart TV Review: Is It Worth It?

I 100% would buy it again. If you’re like me and want a high-quality TV that blends seamlessly with your home decor, it’s the best TV on the market. It’s funny how going from a black TV to a digital art TV felt like upscaling the entire space, but that’s exactly what it did.

We have never spent so much money on a TV before, and I was nervous it would be gimmicky, but it is absolutely worth every penny if aesthetics matter to you. This isn’t something that you’d put in a dedicated home theater where you need function over form, but for highly trafficked areas with a TV, I absolutely recommend it.
